A rubellite realistic skull worked in tourmaline. At 8.5 inches it is among the larger pieces we carve.

A natural stone worked in the round, its colour and pattern formed over geological time rather than applied. Whatever markings the block carried run right through it.

Carving a skull leaves nowhere to hide — the proportions are familiar enough that any error reads immediately. Most of the working time goes into the orbits and the line of the jaw.
